Yorkshire Terrier Personality & Temperament
The Yorkshire Terrier, affectionately known as the Yorkie, may be small in size, but this breed is known for having a remarkably confident personality.
The ideal Yorkie carries itself proudly, with an upright posture and an unmistakable sense of importance. Yorkies are typically alert, curious, affectionate, energetic, and very attached to their families. Many can also be protective of the people they love and enjoy being involved in whatever is happening around the home.
Although Yorkies are often considered lap dogs, they are not necessarily timid or passive. A well-socialized Yorkie is usually confident, engaged, and eager to explore its surroundings while still enjoying plenty of affection and cuddle time.
Intelligent and Easy to Train

Because the breed was originally developed as a working terrier, Yorkies can have an independent streak. That intelligence can make them quick learners, but it also means they benefit from regular mental stimulation and positive, consistent training.
Indoor games, short training sessions, puzzle toys, walks, and supervised play can all help keep a Yorkie's mind and body active.
Active, Affectionate and Adaptable
Yorkies are generally adaptable and can do well in many different living environments, including apartments, homes, and households that travel frequently.
Because of their small size, they do not require the same amount of physical exercise as many larger breeds, but they still benefit from daily activity, play, mental stimulation, and interaction with their family.
Most Yorkies thrive on attention and companionship. Many prefer staying close to their people and are perfectly happy curling up beside—or directly on—their favorite person at the end of the day.
Every Yorkie is an individual, of course. Some are highly energetic and outgoing, while others are quieter and more laid-back.
Do Yorkies Bark a Lot?
Yorkies are alert dogs and may naturally bark when they hear unfamiliar sounds, notice visitors, or believe something unusual is happening.
This can make them excellent little watchdogs.
However, excessive barking is not inevitable. With proper socialization, exercise, routine, and positive training, many Yorkies learn when barking is appropriate and when it is time to settle down.
A mentally stimulated, well-exercised, and content Yorkie can be a wonderful combination of playful companion, affectionate lap dog, and confident little watchdog.

The Story Behind Our Puppy Program
Our journey began through our family's personal experience with Brianna and autism. Dogs became an important source of companionship, comfort, routine, and connection in her life, inspiring our family to learn more about how positive interaction with animals can benefit children and families.
That experience eventually inspired us to develop our own family-centered puppy socialization program in Oklahoma City.
Under appropriate adult supervision, children in our family have opportunities to interact with and help socialize puppies for short periods of time. These everyday experiences help puppies become familiar with people, household activity, affection, play, handling, and family life.
We have also been inspired by the work of hospitals, therapy-animal programs, service-dog organizations, researchers, and families exploring the positive role animals can play in people's lives.
While our puppies are not automatically certified therapy or service animals, we believe thoughtful socialization can help prepare a puppy to become a wonderful companion for the right family.
After completing their age-appropriate socialization and care within our program, our puppies become available for rehoming to approved families.
From Our Family to Yours
For us, puppies have always been about more than dogs.
They are about family, companionship, laughter, responsibility, comfort, and love.
We are grateful that something that began with one little girl's love for Yorkies grew into an experience shared by grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and families across the country.
